Cause

Due to the OS limitation, Windows allows Polarbackup to only back up the file which its path has 250 characters or less. Files with longer paths will not get backed up and will stay in the Skipped Files list of Polarbackup.

Resolution

If you have skipped files or suspect that you have many folders within folders or long file names, you can shorten the source folder path to resolve the issue.

  1. Identify any files or folders that exceed this limit.
  2. Copy or move the file into a folder that does not exceed 250 characters.
  3. Delete the original folder that exceeded the limit.
  4. Open your Polarbackup desktop software → Data Selection → Make sure the new folder with the shortened path is included in the data selections → Save.
