Introduction

Efficiently managing temporary file storage during backup processes is crucial for maintaining optimal system performance and avoiding unnecessary disk space consumption. Polarbackup utilizes specific locations on your machine to store these temporary files. Understanding where these files are stored and how to manage their location can help users ensure their system runs smoothly during backup operations.

Polarbackup’s Default Caching Location

When backing up data on a Windows machine using the Polarbackup desktop application, temporary files are stored in the BackupCache folder by default. This folder is typically located at:

%AppData%\PolarBackup\PolarBackup\Jobs\{6E820F39-1F0F-4C22-A9F6-5E7CAE6F6FA7}\Data\BackupCache
AppData is a hidden folder.

How to Change Polarbackup’s Cache Drive

  1. Open the Polarbackup desktop application and click the Settings button.
  2. From the left-side panel of the Settings window, click on Preferences.
  3. Refer to the General tab and click the Change Cache Drive button.
  4. From the opened window, select one of the listed available drives.
  5. Click the Save button to confirm your selection.
  6. Click the Save button to save the changes.

Polarbackup will automatically transfer the files from the old caching location to the new one, creating a hidden folder named _PolarbackupCache in the selected drive.

By managing the storage location of temporary backup files, users can optimize their system’s performance and prevent the primary drive from filling up, ensuring a smoother and more efficient backup process.
